This is the Japanese Deluxe Edition box set of Mahler Complete Symphonies. All works are performed by Lorin Maazel conducting the Wiener Philharmoniker. Other artists featured include Eva Marton, Jessye Norman, Agnes Baltsa, Kathleen Battle, Sharon Sweet, Pamela Coburn, Florence Quiver, Brigitte Fassbaender, Richard Leech, Sigmund Nimsgern, Simon Estes, etc.

The box set includes all ten of Mahler’s symphonies on 12 discs in 3 double jewel cases and a 112-page booklet with special articles, interviews, analyses of the symphonies, musical illustrations, photographs, drawings, etc. The packaging and design of this edition is completely different from the others.

Included in the Japanese Deluxe Edition is an extra CD called “Gustav Mahler Remembered”. This CD is in its own jewel case with a 28-page booklet. It contains recordings of reminiscences by Mahler’s associates and by musicians who played under his baton plus personal recollections of Anna Mahler, narrated by William Malloch. Also included is the Finale of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony played by the composer on a Welte Piano Roll.
