The “Mainstream” section also includes coverage of M-base and acid jazz. Overall lists of recommended videos, CDs, and box sets are also included, as well as a bibliography.

The CD-ROM portion of disc 2 contains a Macromedia Director application with a description, a photo gallery of artists (with bios), and an audio clip (.AIF) and video clip (.MOV) for every genre represented on the CDs. Also included are installation files for QuickTime 2.1 and EarthLink Network TotalAccess, dial-up Internet software intended to provide access to www.jazzcentralstation.com, a jazz portal website maintained by N2K Inc. from 1995-1998.

The genre divisions in the track listing are only found in the book.
